01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

Passing through the noren curtain at dusk, guests are welcomed by warm air and savory aromas rising from the grill. Located in Ikebukurohoncho, the izakaya Iwakitei (いわき亭) offers an unpretentious setting to enjoy affordable yakitori and well-paired drinking snacks. With counter seating available, dropping by alone after work feels comfortable and effortless.

Grilled chicken skewers form the core of the menu, featuring branded Jiyodori alongside izakaya staples like negima (chicken and scallion), chicken skin, meatballs, and gizzard. When deciding what to order, an assorted salt platter that includes chicken wings or the five-skewer chef’s selection glazed with rich tare sauce make dependable choices. The assertively salted skewers pair naturally with draft beer or Sapporo Lager 'Akaboshi,' as well as crisp, refreshing chuhai.

The supporting side dishes hold plenty of appeal too, enlivening the table with wallet-friendly plates like humble homemade potato salad, fragrant fried mehikari, and dashi-rich rolled omelet. To round out the meal, gentle chicken rice porridge and softly shaped onigiri are on hand, ensuring a deeply satisfying dinner through to the end.
